Wallace was an immensely popular writer in his time. These stories show all the attitudes of their time - colonial and condescending. However, the stories are well constructed and the light they throw on imperialist attitudes is very interesting. A beach read.
Sanders stories are some of the best that I have ever read beginning about 45 years ago.
Good old Edgar ! one can at all times rely on him for interesting, exciting, and even insightful stories...his characters are gems...the morals of his stories are extant..every one of the Sanders series is worth reading.!
I have thoroughly enjoyed the Sanders stories that I have found so far. They're amusing but with a little bit of history of British colonial times also.
Laughed a lot
Great fun. I was brought up on this and its likes some seventy or more years ago. Of course it is racist. Of course it is tongue in cheek.Of course it is out of date. But entertaining and only the really sensitive can seriouysly feel hard done by.
This book about Britain's colonial Africa is different from anything that I've ever read before. The book is listed as having chapters but each is actually a short story about Comm. Sanders interactions with the natives. I found it interesting but don't know that I would read another one.
